Need Help?

The STORM Youth Group is having a fundraiser to raise money for our Youth Ministry Mission Trips this summer. Participants are available to do odd jobs for a donation to our trips. This could include raking leaves, landscaping work, mowing the lawn, painting or shoveling snow. It could be a one time work project or ongoing. If you can give us at least one week notice that would be appreciated, or if it is ongoing, try to set it up ahead of time. All donations are then made payable to the St. Scholastica STORM Youth Group.  Please contact Jennifer at youthministry@stscholasticaparish.org or 630-985-2351x138 to set up work projects.

Clive Otieno.  This Mass meets the opportunity for Sunday Mass and parents and families are welcome to join us.  After Mass we will continue the series “Altaration: What is Our Response”.  The evening begins with an ice breaker, then there is a video about the topic, small groups, and ends in prayer.  If you would like additional information, please call Jennifer Olson at 630-985-2351x138 or e-mail her at youthministry@stscholasticaparish.org.  Join a youth community that really cares about you and wants you to be involved!  Join S.T.O.R.M. and INVITE YOUR FRIENDS (and get points)!

* We will be taking a monetary collection during the Mass for STORM Youth Ministry.  We are not charging a registration fee this year, so this will help to offset some of our costs.  Please be generous.

Info Meeting for Youth Ministry Youth & Young Adult Italy Pilgrimage 2019

St. Scholastica will be sponsoring a Pilgrimage to Italy in June of 2019 for teens and young adults.  This trip will be open to all 8th Graders and older, including all high school and college students. An information brochure is available and applications are due by October 29.  Teens and parents are invited to join us.

We would normally be going to World Youth Day (WYD), but they are holding it in January during a school time, so we have decided to do a pilgrimage to Italy instead.  This trip should be fun for the participants, but please be aware that it is a Pilgrimage, not a vacation.  A main focus of the trip is the spiritual aspect.  We hope you will join us!

If anyone is still interested in attending the Retreat at Camp Manitoqua the weekend of October 21-22, 2017, you can bring your permission slip to the STORM Meeting tonight.  Permission slips and information sheets are available on the rack in the back of church and in the Parish Office and they are bright pink and have information about times and costs.  For further information please call Jennifer at 630-985-2351x138.

Holy Fire Conference for 6th, 7th and 8th Graders

Holy Fire is a conference on Saturday, October 21st from 10am-4:30pm featuring nationally known speakers. As a community, youth come together and they are challenged to participate in activities centered around prayer, witness and joy that perpetuate the concept of becoming missionary disciples who are not afraid to witness the faith. Ultimately, Holy Fire helps young people to see themselves as witnesses of Christ and members of a young Church.  This year’s conference features Steve Angrisano, Noelle Garcia, Sr. Josephine Garrett, Joe Melendrez and Mass with Cardinal Blaze Cupich.  They are still accepting permission at the regular price of $45 – Call Jennifer if you are interested at 630-885-6439.  We went to this event last year and it was amazing!

Text Box: The FALL RETREAT TEAM will meet Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at 7-9 pm in the Youth Room.

“Rain Down” Teen Choir

The Teen Music Ministry will practice before the meeting, from 5:45 - 6:30 p.m. tonight with Carrie Marcotte and then play for the Mass.  The Teen Choir plays at STORM Evening Liturgies and at seven Teen Masses throughout the year.  We are still seeking singers and musicians.  All are invited to come.

S.T.O.R.M. YOUTH MINISTRY will be hosting a Movie and Discussion Night for 6th, 7th and 8th Graders on Saturday, October 28th from 6 – 8:30 p.m. in the Youth Room.  We will provide pizza, snacks and drinks.  The movie will be “Miracles From Heaven”.  All middle school youth are invited to attend!  Please RSVP to Jerry Christensen by phone at 630-985-2351x127 or e-mail Jerry at StSDeaconJerry@aol.com by Wednesday, October 25 so we can get a count for pizza.  Join us and invite a friend.

Summer Mission Trip!

If you are interested in our summer Mission Trip to the Omaha-Winnebago Native American Reservation with Young Neighbors In Action that we are planning for June 24-30, 2018, applications and deposits are due by TODAY Sunday, October 15 to receive priority.  We will have a waiting list and we may apply to a second camp on a different week for older teens if we need.  Please call Jennifer if you would like more information.

Please pray for the youth of our parish who will be attending a RETREAT

at Camp Manitoqua Retreat Center in Frankfort!

We will be departing from the St. Scholastica parking lot on Saturday, October 21st at 12:30 p.m. and will be returning on Sunday, October 22nd around 6:30 p.m.  If anyone has any questions, you can call the Youth Ministry Office at 630-985-2351x138.  This Retreat gives teens the opportunity to better get to know the other participants, and to get away from the stresses of life for the weekend.  The theme of the retreat is “Life Is Beautiful” and our teen leaders will be sharing some of their experiences that have helped them to realize that all life is precious.  There will be great discussions and, of course, great fun.

Taffy Apple Sales

STORM Youth Ministry will be selling Taffy Apples on the weekend of October 28/29 to benefit the Mission Trip this summer.

Teen Mission Speaker – Fr. Tom McCarthy

On Sunday, November 5th we will be having a Teen Mass at the 12 pm Mass at St. Scholastica.  After the Mass from 1-3 pm, we will have Pizza and then Fr. Tom McCarthy will be giving a mini-retreat for High School Teens and 8th Graders about  “What Does It Mean To Be Catholic Today?”  Fr. Tom is from St. Rita High School and he is an amazing speaker.  Please join us and bring some friends.

We will begin planning our 16th annual Discovery Retreats on Monday, October 30th at 7 pm in the Youth Room.  All participants of the last four Discovery Retreats are invited to be a part of the team and will be involved in the planning for our next Discovery Retreats.  Most meetings are on Monday evenings.  This year Discovery will be offered twice and all Confirmation Candidates will attend one.  The dates are February 3-4 and April 14-15.  Team members can help to facilitate one or both Discovery Retreats.  Contact Jennifer for more information.
